HYANNIS — The Barnstable Town Council gave the green light Thursday night to a 60-unit housing development to be built along Pleasant and South streets in a neighborhood known as “Sea Captains Row.”

The council approved a regulatory agreement with CapeBuilt Development, of Amesbury, by a vote of 11-1. The only vote against the project came from Councilor Jessica Rapp Grassetti, who represents Precinct 7 in Cotuit.

The project will redevelop nine lots in the area that currently have dilapidated buildings or are used for ferry parking lots. In their place will rise eight multifamily buildings that will be a mix of market-rate rentals and condominiums. An existing structure on one of the lots will be renovated to a community center and two affordable studio apartments for resident artists.

Information about the project was already on the CapeBuilt website Friday.

“COMING SOON! Discover what downtown living in Hyannis is all about at Sea Captains Row. Stylish apartments with carefully curated finishes offer a distinctive opportunity to ‘Live, Work, Play’ in the heart of Cape Cod. Designed with the exceptional mix of recreational, culinary and retail pursuits right outside your door, Sea Captains Row is not to be missed!” it says.

The developer will now pursue building permits from the town, with construction expected to begin in the spring.
